Does anyone remember the old Anne Murray song which says we sure could use a little good news today? Yeah, I know, it's not a great song or even a good song for that matter. It did capture a feeling that the news media was out of sync with the hopes of everyday Americans (or in Murray's case, everyday Canadians, but I digress.) Now I said all that to say just this: the employment outlook for 2017 in Texas is looking up. That means two things:

1. Opportunity is knocking.
2. We don't need to hear that dreary Anne Murray song, Sorry Anne.

According to the state Workforce Commission (my, what a pretentious name for a state agency), Texas added almost 21,000 new jobs in the month of November. That's a whole lot of families who will now have a Christmas thanks to opportunity. Nothing Santa could bring equals that in the least.

As a side note, it's amazing to think how callous some in our government behave towards the working families out there. The current administration is fairly open about how they were going to destroy the coal industry, concerns of the workers be damned. It would be nice if we wouldn't need to fight our own elected officials in the process of trying to make enough to keep the lights on.

Congrats to those who have found employment after a long search and prayers for those whose search continues.
