Unabashedly, this tune is one of Dave's Faves, a classic seventies mixing a ridiculously clever arrangement and oodles of beyooing keyboards. Also pancakes.

Oh man, when I hear this song, I see custom party vans and jacked up muscle cars, summers circling the town from the Sonic on one end and the D.Q. on the other, Saturday nights at the roller rink, hanging out in front of the arcade at the edge of town, shag haircuts, tube tops and sophomore dudes who somehow already have full mustaches and prison records.

Of course, I made all that up. Maybe I've seen Dazed And Confused too many times.

I spent most of the late seventies out of the country, in far flung Okinawa, where we had none of that stuff, that I remember; we only knew what was going on in the states from the low budget movies padding out our military theaters, feeding us those previously mentioned images of what was happening in the u.s. By the time I caught up with today's song, it was 1979 and it was played incessantly every night during a live remote from a classic rock club, a show called The Oasis Rock Hour. Ah, that's where my classic rock education began.

I dig the two ping ponging lead singers. I also dig the crazy keyboard action which, according to Wikipedia, was a total accident during recording, someone forgetting to mute one take of the keyboards while another was playing and the band's jaws all hitting the studio floor. Creative accidents are the road to Heaven.

Also there's pancakes all over the album cover.

That's why this tune is today's-
