Bell County reported its first death as a result of COVID-19 infection Thursday.

The patient was a woman in her 80's from Temple. Her identity has not been made public.

“Out of respect for the family of the deceased and to assure compliance with federal medical privacy rules, the Bell County Public Health District will identify when a death related to COVID-19 occurs but will not release any additional information such as city of residence or age range, unless the family specifically permits," Bell County Public District Director Dr. Amanda Robison-Chadwell said.

Health officials currently report 20 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Bell County, 1 case in Coryell County, 28 in McLennan County, 1 in Falls County, 2 in Milam County, 27 in Williamson County, and 1 in Burnet County.

Bell County Remains under a shelter in place directive, with residents asked not to leave their homes unless it is absolutely necessary, to continue practicing social distancing, and to wash their hands thoroughly and frequently.
