Eddie Money is scheduled to undergo heart surgery this week, but if doctors had it their way, the procedure would have already taken place.

The rocker recently complained of shortness of breath, leading medical officials to recommend a heart-valve procedure. But Money didn’t want to disappoint fans by canceling his previously scheduled performances, so he went forward with the concerts over Memorial Day weekend, even though he continued to experience shortness of breath.

With the rocker's obligations now concluded, the surgery will take place later this week, during a break in his touring schedule. The minimally invasive procedure should allow Money to be back on the road by mid-June.

In a message posted on Twitter, the rocker thanked fans for their “thoughts and prayers,” adding that he is “look[ing] forward to getting back onstage and rockin’ with you all!”

Money rose to fame in the ‘70s and ‘80s behind a string of hit singles including “Two Tickets to Paradise,” “Baby Hold On” and “Take Me Home Tonight.” Between 1977 and 1986, he scored four platinum selling albums and became a regular fixture on MTV.

More recently, Money’s endeavors have seen him all over television. The singer and his family are the focus of the reality series Real Money. The show, which is in its second season on AXS TV, follows the daily lives of the singer, both at home and on the road. Money also guest starred on an episode of The Kominsky Method in 2018, playing a fictional version of himself.

Once his medical issues are behind him, Money will turn his attention toward new music. Brand New Day, the singer's first album in more than a decade, is due for release on July 19. The album's title track is available at streaming services now.
