Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson buys XFL with Friends

The Rock is cooking up something different these days.

According to a report from Sportico, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has recently partnered with Gerry Cardinale’s RedBird Capital to purchase the XFL. The funny thing is that the XFL was originally created by Johnson's former WWE boss, Vince McMahon.

“I could not imagine a better outcome for the XFL. Dany, Dwayne and Gerry are the best possible ownership group for the exciting journey ahead, said XFL President Jeffrey Pollack in a statement to Sportico, who oversaw the sale process for the league. “Their collective track-record of success in entertainment, sports and media is stellar, and I think our fans, players, coaches, and partners are in for something special.”

The XFL sold for a cool $15 million, and the trio split the price evenly. For years now the XFL has been itching to get off the ground, and it really seemed like 2020 was the year it was going to happen. Of course COVID-19 blew through and changed everyone's plans dramatically, and with it many businesses have been forced to declare bankruptcy.

The same rang true for the XFL, but luckily Johnson and his partners were able to save it just in time.
