It's a common saying that money is the mothers milk of politics, so it should come as no surprise that like Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine will also be journeying to Texas to raise money for himself and Democratic presidental nominee Hillary Clinton in the month of August.

According to a story in the Texas Tribune,  the Virginia Senator will be in Austin on August 9 and August 10 in Dallas-Fort Worth. The Tribune scored some invitations to these high dollar events and reported donors being asked to contribute themselves or raise from others anywhere from $2,700 to $50,000. Big bucks.

I'm sure such a high number amazes many of the average voters out there. However, let's not be naïve. It takes money to pay for advertising and fund what is essentially a Fortune 500 company that will disband after the election.  After all, we're talking about paying thousands of people to go door-to-door, to coordinate events with large numbers of people, to organize voter turnout in 50 states.  Simply put, mobilizing people behind a common idea costs money.

To put it even more bluntly, as a member of an industry which makes its money on advertising dollars, I wouldn't have it any other way.  This political money keeps people employed in my business. I make no apologies for that.

There are those who complain about the influence of money in politics. Yet Barack Obama is a great example of a candidate who can win against the establishment's choice by raising money from average voters, those giving two and three figure donations. In time, if you appeal to more people, smaller donations add up when more average Americans get involved in the process. If you believe in a candidate, and if you share their values, you should actively consider donating to their campaign.  It's no different than any other cause.
