DAVE’S FAVE FIVE SONGS: NUMBER SOMETHING OR OTHER (I’m Tired)
"Looking for the Heart of Saturday Night/Then I'm gonna find a parking space down at the Pick And Save/Maybe get a blintz/How come your daughter don't like my music?"
I love the Tom Waits. Oh My God. Especially the early stuff, when he was the bard of the bad side of town, before he blew out his voice, lost his mind and became Bullforg BullHorn. Any of those early albums rock my socks, especially The Heart Of Saturday Night. Holy cats. That's why I'm jazzed to be introducing my fifteen year old to his music.
As for my favorite song, it's hard to narrow it down when it comes to this album. The wistfulness of the amazingly sad "San Diego Serenade"-
-or the late night driving and dreaming of the title song. Oh, it's so good.
No, I'll have to go with the tearing down the highway in the dead of night stand up bass fingersnap driven jazzbo rap of "Diamonds On My Windshield." I could listen to this song over and over. Whaddaya think, Alex? Uh, Alex?
*sigh*
Here is "Diamonds On My Windshield." Another of Dave's Fave Songs Of All Time.
P.S: Here's a Tom Waits 101, in case you wanna dig deeper, unlike my ungrateful daughter. Go HERE!
