City of Temple Testing Sirens Saturday Morning, January 7

It may be cold, but not cold enough to freeze the loud sirens.

The City of Temple announced Friday in a release it will conduct the monthly all-hazards warning system test Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.

Two new locations of loud alert origination have been added to the outdoor warning system, increasing the total of twenty-four sirens strategically placed within the city to alert citizens outside of their home, school or business of potential danger.

The new locations are:
· Centex Sportsman Club Road and Eagle Landing Drive
· South Kegley Road and Blue Star Boulevard

In other words, you're going to hear this!

The authorities explain the purpose and uses of the sirens thusly:

"Outdoor warning sirens may be activated for a variety of emergencies when time is critical and people are outdoors, away from radio or television. During an emergency activation, the sirens sound for three minutes. When the three minute tone is heard during severe weather, immediately go to the center of a small interior room on the lowest level (closet, interior hallway) away from corners, windows, doors, and outside walls. If the three minute tone is heard at any other time, turn on a local television channel or radio station and listen for information on the emergency and actions to take."

Of course, in the event of an actual emergency, the alert system will activate over the air on our radio station.  And we certainly sound more musical then a siren! Why don't you keep us on all the time? (Tee-hee-hee)

Sirens are tested the first Saturday of the month at 11:00 a.m. (weather permitting) for one minute.  So far everything is a go for tomorrow morning in spite of the fact that it's freezing!
