Fire crews were on the scene of a duplex fire in China Springs early Friday morning.

The blaze off of Spring Berry Lane was reported around 2:40 a.m., and several area fire departments arrived on the scene to be of assistance: China Springs Fire Department, Waco Fire Department, Speegleville Forrest Service, and McLennan County Sheriff's Office.

When crews arrived, one of the duplex units was fully engulfed. A car that was parked directly next to the duplex was destroyed by flames.

Neighbors told our news partners at KWTX that three people lived in one of the duplex units and they all made it out safely. The family that lives in the other unit was not home at the time.

The fire was moving quickly on the unit, and was heading towards the attic. The damage to the second unit wasn't known immediately at the time of the fire. The cause of the inferno is presently unknown, and the American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the displaced family.
