Police say a child was riding a scooter outside when a stranger attempted to abduct them Monday afternoon.

According to a Facebook post from the Waco Police Department, officers responded to the 2200 block of Meadow Road around 4 PM Monday after a child escaped an attempted kidnapping.

The child was riding their scooter outside when an unknown male grabbed the child from behind. The kid was able to fight back and break away from the man before running home to safety.

Officers were not able to put together a detailed description of the suspect, but have stated that "it was a male and that there may have been a car involved."

Waco PD Officer Garen Bynum told our partners at News 10 that parents must remain diligent, and that he doesn't want to see any kidnappings in his city.

Currently, law enforcement has been unable to find any witnesses to the attempted kidnapping, but they are encouraging anyone who may have information about this incident to come forward.

If you have any information that could be helpful to investigators, please call Waco PD at (254)750-7500 or Waco Crimestoppers at (254)753-HELP(4357).
