Released on a subsidiary of Motown, believe it or not, this tune from a Canadian one hit wonder was in fact a massive hit in the spring of 1971, hitting number one the world over and hitting the top five in the u.s. It was inspired by the film Bonnie And Clyde and originally started with the sound of sirens, which had to be pulled off because folks were complaining of car freakouts, thinking the cops were pulling them over. Those were simpler times.

A great song's lasting power is vested in how it can be re-purposed with a complete different meaning, the way a song's interpretation can change with the times the song finds itself in, know what I'm saying?
