Big Q’s Parents Celebrate 50 Year Mark on Valentines Day

Hey Gang,

I'd like to take a moment to wish my parents a happy anniversary.  It was 50 years ago tonight that they had their 1st date.

Everyday, around the world, two 16 year-olds have their first date.  It's not to often that they celebrate that moment 50 years later.  My folks will tonight.

Growing up my parents never really celebrated their wedding anniversary as much as they celebrated Valentines Day.  All the relatives didn't really recognize it, but Mom & Dad did. We would wish them a Happy Anniversary in July, but my brother and I new that they had celebrated that previous February.

If you have a 16 year old kid, just starting to date, take a look at who they go out with and imagine that person being in you kids life for the next 50 years.  Did my parents think they'd still be with each other 50 years later?  Maybe they did since they celebrate more on the first date, then they do on the wedding day.

Too be honest, I don't even know if it was a date, or if they just met at a party.  I have some recognition of my Father saying he remembers seeing my Mom "bounce" across the dance floor.  Either way, tonight they will do what they always do, and celebrate together.  Tonight it will be the 50th Anniversary, then in 3 years, the rest of us will be able to celebrate their other 50th Anniversary.
