Big Q’s Cassette Classic Features OXO and ‘Whirly Girl’

You can't go wrong with upbeat synth music, at least that's what Great Grandma always used to say. Well, that's what I thought she was saying. German was her first language after all.

I used to bowl on the weekends. I had a solid 135 average…for 3 years. I used to bowl at an alley called Chateau Lanes. I know you might find this hard to believe, but I lived in a town the size of Belton and we had two bowling alleys. One was really bright, one was really dark and moody. Yep, you guessed it. I was at the dark and moody one. You’d come out on a Saturday afternoon and have to cover your eyes until your retina’s adjusted to the sunshine.

Sometimes you just needed to pick yourself up mentally. That’s what this next group did for me. It’s OXO. The song was called “Whirly Girl”. For whatever reason the song just made me smile. I do like a good dose of weird and this song has that. It peaked at number 28 in 1983, but it was a little higher on the Cassette.
