Elton John's first LP, Elton John, did produce a song called "Border Song" which peaked at 92 on the U.S. charts. His next single was the one that really introduced him to America.

It was on this day in 1970 that "Your Song" cracked the Billboard Hot 100. It would go on to reach #8.

Since Elton's first job in the music business was as a song writer, with Bernie Taupin, the songs they wrote were offered to other people. "Your Song" was no different. It had been offered to The Hollies, and Three Dog Night had already recorded a version of it. But history will always hear it with Elton John.
