In case you missed the 42 annual Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, here is a time lapse of the event.

The event started as a radio promotion.  It was the 50th anniversary of 770 KOB.  They asked Sid Cutter if they could borrow an air balloon for their celebration.  Sid was the first person to own an air balloon in New Mexico, and well, the discussion came up of the amount hot air balloons ever in on place.  Turned out it was 19 in England.  They ended up getting 13 the first year.  They peaked in 2000 with 1,019.  Due to Albuquerque's growth cutting down on landing zones, they put a limit of 750 in 2001, and then dropped it to 600 in 2009.

This past year they had 700 balloons take flight over the 9 days of the Fiesta.  I like how the video shows the balloons taking off towards the camera, then flying away from the camera once they hit a certain height.

In case you were wondering if these things ever crash, Yes, yes they do.
