Princess Bride to Show at Temple Cultural Activities Center

Alamo Drafthouse of Dallas/Ft. Worth is making a tour through our area. First off, we don't have an Alamo Drafthouse in Bell County. That's unfortunate: The Texas-based chain is nothing short of a movie-lover's dream. In addition to the big hits, Alamo also screens tons of classic movies like the revival houses in large cities. Of course, being able to eat, drink and watch a movie at the same time is all kinds of awesome sauce. The nearest locations are in Travis County.

The folks at the Cultural Arts Center in Temple have partnered with Alamo Drafthouse for the "As You Wish" Movie Under the Stars, benefiting the Allison Dickson Baylor Law Scholarship Friday, August 19, 5:30 PM - 12:30 AM at their digs at 3011 N 3rd Street. The use of that phrase can only mean one thing: the movie being screened is the quotable cult classic The Princess Bride.

This is a free outdoor movie on Alamo's 45-foot Rolling Roadshow screen, complete with food trucks, local breweries, inflatable swords, face painting, Dread Pirate Roberts' pirate ship bounce house (bounce-a-bout), Fire Swamp inflatable obstacle course, incredible auction items and full access to the art exhibits inside the Cultural Activities Center. This event is BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair) or blanket if you wanna do the whole picnic thing. In other words, as you wish!

Outdoor movies are pure fun. Years ago, I saw Raiders of The Lost Ark in the park on a gigantgic 70MM screen, complete with the Cinemax Dancers during a big tour of the USA, ostensibly to get folks to sign up for the premium movie channel so they could stay home and watch the same movie. That irony was not lost on me.
