As most folks know by the odd spelling and pronunciation of my name when compared to Smith and Miller, I am like many in the East Texas area of French Cajun dissent. Because like those folks, I am originally from Louisiana. It's kinda funny, I'm finding all sorts of people in this area with roots and/or connections to the swamps and bayous of our neighboring state.  It just goes to prove South Louisiana people would rather move to Texas than anywhere up north, but I digress.

From 12th night, or the feast of the epiphany through ash Wednesday, South Louisiana folks celebrate carnival season a.k.a. Mardi Gras season.  One of the highlights of this time of year is the King Cake, a pastry that's a little slice of heaven. This year, I put out an APB on social media to my friends: I wanted some King Cake! My good buddy John Smith, printer by trade at www.snsprinting.com decided to do me a solid and send a whole cake. Pecan Praline flavor with cream cheese inside.

Within minutes, this is what it looked like. The ring is the evidence of where the cake's original boundaries were.

Admittedly, I have not looked for King Cake around these parts.  If anyone knows of a bakery that does King Cakes in the Central Texas area, please let us know so we can go and get one!
