A Possible Cure For Cat Allergies

If you love cats but have never owned one due to a cat allergy, rejoice! The Swedes may have saved the day! A Swiss-based company has invented a new cat allergy vaccine that’s administered to pets, not people.

A few months ago, HypoPet AG announced in a press release that it was developing a vaccine that targets Fel d 1, a common feline allergen that affects close to 10 percent of the Western human population.

This is also great news for the millions of cats waiting to be adopted in animal shelters. According to the ASPCA, about 3.2 million cats are left in animal shelters each year in this country. About 860,000 of those cats are euthanized. Removing the barrier many have in adopting a cat could save many feline lives.
