A 6-year-old, wounded survivor of the November 5 shooting at a church in Sutherland Springs returned home Thursday, and received a hero's welcome.

Ryland Ward was shot several times in the attack by a long gunman on the First Baptist Church in Southerland Springs. 26 people were killed in the shooting, including Ryland's stepmother and two step-sisters.

ABC News reports that after more than two months in the hospital undergoing multiple surgeries, Ryland returned home riding in a fire truck.

Ryland's life was saved by volunteer firefighter Rusty Duncan, who told ABC News he was walking through the aisles of the church searching for survivors when he felt a tug on his pant leg. Ryland was trapped under his stepmother, and Duncan freed him and rushed him outside for help.
