The LIFE Images Collection/Getty[/caption]A sad anniversary happens this Sunday, October 16th. And while we should never dwell on such a horrible incident, it's important to never forget. It'll be the 25th anniversary of the Killeen Luby's Shooting - the largest single-person mass shooting in the United States at the time.

It was during the lunch hour that Belton's George Hennard crashed his blue Ford pick-up through the front window of the Luby's. He ran over several people, then began shooting before even getting out of the truck.

He then proceeded to start shooting people at random. He chose to not shoot a mother and daughter at one table, and even said to take the little girl out of the place, then shot the people at the next table.

For 12 minutes George shot people at random, before 3 plain-clothed DPS officers heard the shooting and rushed in. Hennard was wounded during that gun battle. He escaped into a bathroom and then turned his gun on himself. When it was all said and done, 24 people were tragically killed that day.

At the time it became the biggest massacre in the nations history, not counting Wounded Knee. It held that dubious title for 16 years, until Sueng-Hui Cho shot and killed 32 on the campus of Virginia Tech.

According to kdhnews.com, many survivors who escaped George Hennard’s bullets that day say it still feels like just moments ago. Look for the October 16th edition of the Herald as survivors discuss those horrific 12 minutes.
