KWTX reports an 18-year-old student brought a handgun to Temple High School Tuesday and is now behind bars.

James Godfrey was placed under arrest after a handgun was found on him after a search by an officer according to Temple spokesperson Ellen Morton. Morton says workers in an office got wind of a student who may be carrying a gun and identified Godfrey. He was separated from the rest of the students and placed under arrest.

He was in the Bell County Jail on Tuesday night. Morton said, "The Temple Police Department’s Special Crimes Unit is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this offense and is preparing the appropriate reports."

Godfrey was arrested for unlawful carry of a firearm.
