The new school year isn't even a week old and Killeen ISD officials are already addressing threats being made against students and staff.

According to a safety alert posted to the KISD Facebook page, a 14-year old student was arrested late Wednesday night after making a social media post threatening violence against Killeen, Ellison and Shoemaker High Schools.

Killeen police say that the 14-year-old male student made the threat at around 4:30 P.M. and police arrested the student at around 10:30 PM last night. As an added precaution, KISD officials said that there will be an added police presence at schools across the area today.

“We take any kind of threat like this very seriously. Parents, please help us to make sure students know that if they ever make a threat against the school, they will be charged with a felony and sent to jail or juvenile detention. The safety of everyone on campus is always our highest priority, and no threat such as this will ever be tolerated on any Killeen ISD campus,”- KISD Superintendent John Craft

KISD officials went on to say that they are also investigating any social media account holders who "liked" or "forwarded" the post.

It is imperative that you let your kids know that KISD and Killeen police are taking these threats very seriously and will prosecute FELONY charges against students who make threats whether they are "joking" or not.
