A couple of roads that head through Fort Hood's training area have been closed due to heavy smoke and fire near the training range. All live-fire has been suspended for now.

Residents in Copperas Cove have complained about the smoke and ash from the fires according to KWTX but fire officials say the fires are not a threat to those communities.

The two closures include West Range Road to the west of the training area and Triple-A Road to the north of the training area. Both roads will be closed until further notice. About 6,500 acres have been burned due to the fires that have been keeping the Fort Hood Fire Department very busy the last several days. Winds have shifted overnight forcing the roads to be closed down today.

A Fort Hood Press release says the fires are not an immediate threat to life or property and that a suspension of live-fire training gives them the flexibility to conduct consistent air and ground operations to battle the fire.
