Waco Police identify the victim of a deadly New Years shooting.

The new year starts with blood on the calendar in Waco.

KWTX is reporting that  New Year's morning saw a fight breakout in a Waco nightclub which resulted in a fatal shooting.

The victim was identified as Marcus Carprew, 39, of Waco.

It was just after 2 a.m. that Waco Police responded to a the scene at 211 South Loop at the House of Blues Club. Carprew was found dead after suffering several gunshot wounds.

Investigators believe the argument started in the club, but then they took it outside into the parking lot where the shooting took place.

A person of interest in the shooting has been identified and was detained.

Sgt. Patrick Swanton said that arrests have not been made at this point in the investigation. There were several witnesses to the shooting and that the department is encouraging anyone with information to contact them at 254-750-7500.

The report will show one victim to this crime, but at least two people's lives ended on the first day of 2019.
