Great news for our neighbors to the north, especially those who have kids in high school with a mechanical bent. The Texas Workforce Commission has awarded Waco's Independent School District $220,870 via a Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant. According to The Commission, the grant will provide 175 students with equipment and training for the auto service industry.

My own brother attended high school where auto body was a curriculum track. Today, he is the very successful owner of one of the larger body shops in his area. The education he received in automotive services was a steppingstone for the rest of his life. Cars and their care are in his blood. If our school systems can help focus young minds on a career, it's worth every cent of grants like those.

The next time you have your car serviced, it might be by graduate who received a little help from TWC!
