Waco Wildlife Rehab members were able to successfully catch and save a goose that was shot with a crossbow.

John Carroll with our news partner, KWTX, reports that for the past 10 days people have been trying to catch "Grace the Goose", who was spotted under the Waco suspension bridge with a crossbow bolt sticking out of its chest.

Finally, Grace was captured by rehab workers and taken to the Wildlife Rehab in Lorena.

"Just to do something for the sake of its suffering and for the sake of your entertainment I just think it's completely wrong," said Rachel Sine, owner of Wildlife Rehab in Lorena.

There are also other reports that there are more geese with bolts sticking out of them.

"They said they saw these birds out with arrows that are in their neck so we sent somebody out right away to see if they could catch the geese and all through the week they'd been going back trying to catch and just weren't successful at first,” said Sine.

X-rays showed the bolt had damaged goose's trachea, so Waco Animal Shelter surgeons sprang into action Tuesday to fix it. Grace was in surgery for nearly half an hour and came through the operation successfully.

Grace is expected to make a full recovery. She will be released back under the suspension bridge in a few days.
