A Chicago woman has been extradited to Temple after being charged with stealing over $9,000 worth of jewelry from a woman she cared for in Temple last year.

The Temple Daily Telegram's Deborah McKeon reports that 54-year-old Cathy Laveen Davenport was working as a temporary caregiver for Visiting Angels in December of 2016 when she allegedly stole from a client recovering from a broken hip.

The alleged theft was reported on December 17. The victim told police she left Davenport alone in her apartment in the 2400 block of South 61st Street to attend a doctor's appointment. When she returned, she noticed jewelry missing and asked Davenport to leave. Davenport was reportedly wearing a backpack when she left.

McKeon writes that detectives were able to determine that Davenport sold or pawned several items of jewelry in Temple and Killeen. All of the items were eventually recovered and positively identified by the victim.

On February 7, 2017, Bell County Justice of the Peace David Barfield issued a warrant for Davenport's arrest for a third-degree felony charge of theft of property, McKeon reports. Davenport was arrested in Chicago on June 22 and extradited to Bell County.

Jail records indicate Davenport was booked into the Bell County Jail on Saturday, July 8. Two charges of making a false statement to obtain credit were added to her list of charges, and she remained in the Bell County Jail Wednesday, July 12 in lieu of bonds totaling $36,500.
