UMHB Ranked #2 In Both National Polls

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team matched the highest ranking in program history as the Cru was ranked #2 in the country in the initial American Football Coaches Association's Top 25 Poll of the 2012 season. UMHB totaled 986 points in this week's AFCA poll and received a first place vote for the first time in the 15-year history of UMHB football. Mount Union holds down the top spot with 39 first place votes and 1047 total points. The Cru is now 2-0 on the season following a 32-25 victory over Wesley College last Saturday. St. Thomas (MN) is ranked third, Linfield (OR) College is fourth and defending national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater is fifth. Wesley is #7 in the poll following the loss to the Cru. UMHB's American Southwest Conference rival Louisiana College is ranked #25 in the AFCA poll and this week's opponent, Trinity University, is receiving votes, posting the 26th-highest point total.

“We don't really have any chance to celebrate our win or pay attention to those polls,” Cru head coach Pete Fredenburg said. “If we don't keep winning, the victory over Wesley doesn't mean anything. We have to stay focused and get ready to play a very good, and probably pretty angry Trinity team this weekend.”

UMHB also moved up two spots to #2 in the nation in this week's D3football.com Top 25 Poll. The Cru totaled 598 points in that poll and also claimed two first place votes. It marks the first time UMHB has received a first place vote in the D3football.com Top 25 and represents the program's highest ranking in the D3football.com Poll since the Cru was ranked #2 nationally in the week five poll of the 2005 season. Mount Union is #1 with 623 points and 23 first place votes. Trinity University and Louisiana College are both receiving votes in that poll.

UMHB will return to action with a road game at Trinity University this Saturday. That game will kick off at 6:00 PM at E.M. Stevens Stadium in San Antonio. The Tigers fell to 2-1 on the season with a 62-35 loss to Sul Ross State last Saturday.
