We were "twistin' the morning away" on the am show!  It was on this date in 1960 that Chubby Checker sang "The Twist" on Dick Clark's American Bandstand...

...and the song soon went to #1!  It went to number one again eighteen months later, in 1962.  It is the only song to become #1, leave the charts, and then become #1 again.

All this on the strength of a dance craze that swept America, the first since everyone was doing the Jitterbug in the mid 1950's.

Chubby's big hit was re-recorded, adding the Fat Boys, three guys from Philadelphia who weighed over 750 pounds between them, in 1988.  A little hip hop, a little rap, and a little of the original song.  This is the version of "The Twist" that we played this morning.

In case you missed it, here it is again--

This is funny!  See you tomorrow.
