Texas BBQ Restaurant Feeds Families Hit by Government Shutdown

Killen's (not Killeen's) BBQ in Pearland, Texas will give away free meals to government employees impacted by the partial government shutdown.

If I had to guess, I'd say the shutdown may last into the month of February. Texans may be one of the few places in America that aren't coming apart at the seams. Instead, great people like Ronnie Killen are stepping up and lending a hand.

Businesses everywhere are taking a moment to think about ways they can help area residents who have been hit by the government shutdown. A free meal can go a long way as you can see by the responses to a post from restaurant owner Ronnie Killen who runs Killen Barbecue:

Starting tomorrow, Killen's Barbecue will offer free food to families affected by the shutdown in an event they have named "Furlough Friday". It's a family pack of brisket, sausage, potato salad, and beans to all government employees who want to eat.

It's enough to feed a family of four and Killen's plans on continuing the offer until the shutdown is over. Your government issued ID is required to receive the meal. It's also very cool to see the restaurants up and down the street offering similar specials to their neighbors and customers.
