What is their secret?  My gingerbread houses never stay together! In this case it could be cement!

But it’s not.  This is an edible giant gingerbread house that is now in the Guinness Book of World Records.  Members of Traditions Club in Aggieland did it!

Coming in at 35.8 million calories and covering an area of 2520 square feet, (nearly the size of a tennis court), the 21-foot high gingerbread house in Bryan,  has been declared the biggest ever by Guinness World Records.

The house, with an edible exterior mounted over a wooden frame, was built by the Traditions Club near Texas A&M University to help raise money for St Joseph’s Level II Trauma Center at the regional St. Joseph's Hospital.  All the ingredients and materials were donated.

The house is 60 feet by 42 feet and is 20.11 feet tall at its highest point. It was constructed using 1,800 pounds of butter, 7,200 eggs, 7,200 pounds of flour and close to 3,000 pounds of brown sugar.  Add 22,304 pieces of candy and you get almost 36 million calories!

They held it all together, with icing, not cement. The icing is made out of 417 quarts egg whites, 4,165 pounds powdered sugar and 125 ounces cream of tartar

If you want to see it, the house is at the Traditions Club in Bryan, 3131 Club Drive.  It will be up until December 14 and open from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Santa will be there for photos.  Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for kids.

So far, the house has raised more than $150,000 for the St. Joseph Level II Trauma Center.

Go by and take a look, but keep your hands and your mouth to yourself!  Who knows?   There could be a big bad witch in there!
