Texans Give LT Brown Contract Extension

The Houston Texans announced that left tackle Duane Brown received a contract extension.

Per club policy, no terms were disclosed. The Chronicle reported that Brown had one year remaining on his initial five-year pact and was slated to make $2.08 million in 2012.

"We are thrilled to have solidified our offensive line with this extension for Duane," said Texans executive vice president of football operations and general manager Rick Smith. "We believe Duane is an outstanding young left tackle who has the determination, commitment and ability to develop into one of the NFL's top performers. It's also an exciting day for our organization. We've laid the foundation for sustained success and this is an important step in building on that and toward a championship."

Brown helped the Texans accumulate almost 2,500 rushing yards in 2011 -- a franchise record -- and tied for the lowest sacks allowed in the AFC with two.

The 26-year-old Richmond native and Virginia Tech product has started all 60 games in which he has appeared since 2008.
