The man accused of fatally shooting a Texas state trooper near Fairfield Thursday has reportedly confessed.

KWTX reports that 32-year-old Dabrett Montreal Black was identified using dashcam footage from DPS Trooper Damon Allen's dashcam. A source close to the case told KWTX Black confessed to the crime Friday.

Jail records indicate Black's home address is in Mt. Sylvan, TX. He was being held in the Brazos County Jail Friday evening on a charge of capital murder f a peace officer. His bond was set at $400,000. He also faces charges related to assaulting a public servant, insufficient bond, and evading arrest.

Police say Trooper Allen was shot conducting a traffic stop on I-45 in Freestone County south of Fairfield around 4 PM Thursday. They have not commented upon a possible motive.

Flags flew at half staff across Texas Friday as law enforcement and state leaders mourned the loss of yet another DPS trooper in the line of duty.
