The U.S. Geological Center reports that a small earthquake was detected near South Padre Island on Saturday.

KHOU reports the quake began near 6:15 PM yesterday. The 3.0 magnitude quake happened nearly 64 miles away from South Padre Island in the Gulf of Mexico.

No damage seems to have been reported, and the USGS is asking anyone who thinks they felt the earthquake to reach out to them to take a survey available here. Local officials say they don't expect anything else to come from the event.

The internet is fighting back with a comment on the Youtube channel from the video above that says "It's called fracking, this area is not on an earthquake map ..."
