Dogs that eat Stella and Chewy's brand of food will have to eat something else for a while.

Listeria is the reason for this recall.  A test done in Maryland found the substance in some freeze dried chicken patties. The Maryland Department of Agriculture issued a Stop Sale order on one particular lot of the chicken. The company expanded the recall just to be safe.

So what is the big deal?  Well just like humans, Listeria can make pets sick too.  The company press release explains: "Listeria monocytogenes is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.  Animals that become ill with Listeria could display symptoms similar to the ones listed  for humans."

So what is up for recall?  Even though only a single lot of the chicken patties tested positive for the Listeria, the company expanded the recall just in case. You can check the recall list here.  If you have the recalled products, you are supposed to take them back to the store for a refund. That is rather time consuming if you ordered online.

Stella and Chewy's does have  contact information if you want to talk to somebody about the recall.  Maybe they can help with the online thing.  For any inquiries, you may contact them at info@stellaandchewys.com or 888-477-8977.

They also have a Facebook page, you should check that out too.

Other than this little glitch, Stella and Chewy's sells all natural pet food that looks delicious, to my dog.
