Hey Der,

The Syracuse Post-Standard is reporting that a woman, who was pronounced dead, woke up on the operating table just before doctors started removing her organs.

It happened 4 years ago, but the story is just coming out now.  It was in October 2009 that a 41 year old woman, Caroline Burns of Syracuse, tried to overdose on painkillers and muscle relaxers.  It looked like she was successful as doctors determined that she suffered irreversible brain damage when she slipped into a coma.  Her family decided to pull the plug on her life support and donate her organs. As doctors were about to start the harvest, she woke up.

The hospital launched an investigation, and officials decided that the drugs had caused her totally unresponsive state and slow brain activity, which was mistook for brain damage.  Amazingly her family decided NOT to sue, a rarity for this country, but, according to the Syracuse Post-Standard, the hospital was fined 22 thousand for the miss diagnosis.

The Big Q Tip, if you're going to call it quits and take the selfish way out, best not use painkillers and muscle relaxants.  You might just find out what serious pain is as a doctor starts cutting out your insides.  Sadly, a second shot at life was not what Caroline was looking for, she committed suicide in January of 2011.
