A simple one vehicle crash does not sound like the kind of thing that would erupt into a spectacular inferno. Everything gets bigger in Texas.

According to DPS, at 4:50 P.M Sunday, a one-vehicle crash happened on US 190 between Heidenheimer and Rogers. A 2007 Ford pickup traveling eastbound in the rain lost control on the wet pavement and skidded off the roadway, striking a concrete retainer wall and finally coming to a stop off the north side of the road.  That wasn't the end of it, however

Due to the trauma inflicted on the vehicle, it was soon engulfed in flames. The driver and the one passenger of the vehicle were able to get out before the fire engulfed the pickup. Both occupants were transported by ambulance to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple for minor injuries.  It could've been a lot worse.

DPS doesn't know if any charges will be filed. They say the driver was identified as Frank David, 74 years old, of Rockdale. The passenger was identified as Patricia David, 71 years old, also of Rockdale.  They didn't say if the two David's were related or married, but I'm sure it's a safe bet.  It's a darn shame they lost their truck. If you know them, please reach out.

Please be careful out there, especially when it rains.
