You may have seen my recent post about the tasty burger I had at Hopdoddy in Round Rock. For a building which looks like it used to be a Ryan's Family Steak House, the folks at the ever-expanding Hopdoddy have hipped it up quite a bit.

In my review, I mentioned I had a frozen "fishbowl" of beer. In my hometown, there was a bar that served beer in a small fishbowl on the cheap. Ever since, when I see large rounded beer glasses, frosted for my drinking pleasure, I call them fishbowl glasses.  I wish I could remember the name of the bar, but I did have many a good time there and those I no longer remember either.  Blame it on the beer.

What I do remember is the brewski that I had with my burger. I told my server of my fondness for good old American Pilsner beer, which is a bit of a misnomer as we know. She served me up samples of seven different beers.  Now that's what I call hospitality!

The one I ended up choosing was a local brew because all of them were local at Hopdoddy. It was Austin Beerworks Pearl Snap.  Flavorful yet smooth, not overpowering but not weak either.  Honestly, if I were a raging beer alcoholic - think Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino passed out on his front porch with an empty cooler of PBR and cans strewn all over the place - I could drink that all day if it had a lower price point.  It was six dollars, and I have to respect a well-crafted beer so I don't begrudge the extra mulah.

Here's what the menu said:

'5.3% ABV, 27 IBU. "Official Beer of Austin" - The Austin Chronicle. A bright, clean, crisp & refreshing German-style pilsner.'

Well there you have it.  I'm gonna look for this at specs or H-E-B or any of the other fine liquor stores in the area.  Right after I freeze up some fishbowls next to the Birds-Eye frozen peas.
