Michael Phelps has broken the all-time Olympic medal record with his 19th.

Phelps was out-touched at the wall Tuesday by South Africa's Chad le Clos in the 200-meter butterfly, but anchored a big win for the United States in the men's 800-meter freestyle relay about an hour later.

The silver and gold combo gave him 19 Olympic medals, one more than Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina, who won 18 in the 1950s and 60s.
