Hey Gang,

Welcome to 2014, or what I like to call...Seven. Quick question... Do you remember The Golliwogs?  You might remember them by the name they came changed to on this day in 1968.

It was on this day that The Golliwogs became Creedence Clearwater Revival.  You see, the previous year. 1967. Saul Zaentz bought the record company The Golliwogs were attached to, Fantasy Records, and offered the band, not only a chance at a full-length album, but also a chance to change their name.

They hated their name so the jumped at the chance.  The name came about by adding a few things.  First, Tom Fogerty had a friend named Credence Newball.  They changed the spelling to form the word Creed-ence, as in faith.

Next, they added a TV commercial for Olympia Beer, titled "Clear Water"

Then there was the bands renewed commitment to the band.
