News 10 is reporting that a restaurant has stepped up to help out a struggling food pantry in Killeen.

Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen in Harker Heights is now the largest supplier of food for the Killeen Food Care Center. Cheddar's provides over 150 pounds of donated food every week.

"We check the quality whenever we're bagging it up for the food bank, and we freeze that food and make sure they know that there's food for their them to come to pick up," says Cheddar's managing partner Calandria Bourassa.

The local restaurant used to simply throw away their leftover food until they decided on a better course of action.

the Killeen Food Care Center hopes to help out over 84,000 clients this year alone with groceries and meals.

According to Business Insider, "A 2014 study by the Food Waste Reduction Alliance found that 84.3% of unused food in American restaurants ends up being disposed of, while 14.3% is recycled, and only 1.4% is donated."
