Large department store chain JCPenney is making another round of closures involving 138 retail stores and other support facilities.

According to a release from the company, "Approximately 5,000 positions nationwide will be impacted by the store closures, most of which will occur in June," adding "most affected stores will begin the liquidation process on April 17."

Let's get this out of the way. The stores closing in Texas...

Athens Village Shopping Center, Athens TX
Borger Shopping Plaza, Borger TX
Heartland Mall, Early TX
El Paso Downtown, El Paso TX
Marshall Mall, Marshall TX
McAllen Downtown, McAllen TX
University Mall, Nacogdoches TX
King Plaza Shopping Center, Seguin TX
Bosque River Center, Stephenville TX

No offense to anyone who works at these stores or has family who do but whew, did CenTX dodge a bullet.

Recently, the chain tried to implement "a plan to optimize its national retail operations as part of the Company’s successful return to profitability." It's a shame 5000 people must lose their jobs to be optimal.
