Today is the day to enjoy the beverage which is made from the blue agave plant.
I've been highlighting a lot of "food" days of late, well, today we can wash all the crappy food with some booze. July 24th is National Tequila Day. I'm not a drinker, but anything that put a whole nation on the map must have some merit. Here are a few interesting facts on the water that's safe to drink in Mexico...sort of.
- Made primarily in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, 40 miles Northwest of Guadalajara and in the highlands (Los Altos) of the western Mexican state of Jalisco.
- More than 300 million blue agave plants are harvested in that surrounding region each year.
- Agave tequila grows differently depending on the region.
- Blue Agave – grown in the highlands region – larger in size and sweeter in aroma and taste.
- Agave – grown in the lowland region – have more herbaceous fragrance and flavor.
- Nayarit andTamaulipas.Tequila is normally made at 38-40 % alcohol content but can be produced between 31-55 % alcohol content.
