Friday didn't start out the way many had hoped in the Mexia area as about 1,200 customers woke up without power. Today will be the 2nd day of an excessive heat warning in Central Texas, and the dangerous heat is a concern for residents without power or air conditioning.

KWTX says Oncor started the morning estimating about 1,200 customers were without power. That number was lowered to about 500 by 6:30 AM. The estimated time to restore power is expected to be around 2 PM Friday.

Temperatures are expected to rise to around 108° F this afternoon as the excessive heat warning will last until at least Sunday evening. Utility companies all over Texas are asking customers to reduce their electricity use during peak hours to avoid further outages around the state today.
