Unless you've been shut in all day, you know it's windy out there. A cold front is moving in, and Bell and surrounding counties are under a wind advisory until midnight.

The high winds contributed to a dangerous situation just outside of Moody today, as area fire crews worked to extinguish a wildfire that threatened several homes.

KWTX's Rissa Shaw reports that the fire was caused by embers from a controlled burn conducted by two homeowners Monday night. Stray embers ignited dry grass, and gusty winds helped whip up a massive fire.

Fortunately, fire crews from Moody, Lorena, Troy, McGregor, and Bruceville-Eddy were able to contain the fire Thursday afternoon before it could damage any homes. Shaw reports that no evacuations were necessary, but the flames did come within a hundred yards of some houses.
