It's one of the rare occasions that the video was better than the song.

Back when MTV actually played music videos, the channel was a staple at our poker games. One time, at about 3 in the morning, I heard a video behind me that made me stop and turn around.

It was “Cry” by Godley & Crème. Then, once I started watching the video, I couldn’t take my eyes off it. Turns out the English Duo was quite famous, not only as former members of the group 10cc, but as video directors.

Some of the iconic videos they were responsible for included “Every Breath you Take”, “Wrapped Around Your Finger”, and “Synchronicity II” by the Police. “Girls on Film” and “A View to a Kill” by Duran Duran. “Rockit” by Herbie Hancock, and “Everybody Have Fun Tonight” by Wang Chung. But they saved the best for themselves. The analog cross fading in “Cry”. Here is Godley & Crème.
