Depeche Mode Hint at Some Sort of New Project

Are Depeche Mode getting ready to announce their first new album since 2013’s Delta Machine?

It’s all conjecture at this point, but the band is definitely priming fans for some sort of announcement. Depeche Mode’s social media feeds started teasing new activity on Sept. 10, posting an image with a caption reading “coming soon” — then followed it with another “coming soon” graphic the next day.

News of a new LP would be roughly in line with the timeline suggested by band member Martin L. Gore during a January interview, in which he predicted an April start for sessions on their next record and said they were “in a good place to get started” on new material. They’ve since been spotted in the studio.

“We don’t have any concrete plans at the moment. Nothing is set in stone and we don’t have any schedules,” Gore told the Sun last fall. “If we were to work in the same pattern that we have over the last, God knows how many years, I suppose our plan would be to go into the studio sometime next year and release an album some point in 2017. … I think we have more in us.”

Delta Machine peaked at No. 6 in the U.S., extending a streak of Stateside Top 10 hits that goes all the way back to Violator in 1990. Gore released an instrumental album, MG, in 2015, while singer Dave Gahan put out Angels & Ghosts, the second effort from his Soulsavers project, and keyboardist Andy Fletcher mounted a DJ club tour.
