Since the first day of training camp this summer, the Dallas Cowboys have been wearing a decal on their uniforms saying "Arm in Arm". The team and its players have been sporting the decal to pay tribute to the five police officers who were killed last month in the Dallas shooting.

With the football season just in sight, the NFL has denied the Cowboys' request to wear the decal due to the strict rules on uniform in the league.

However Dallas police have made it known how much they appreciate the gesture and the department said in a statement:

Their concern for the families of our fallen officers, the Dallas Police Department, and the City of Dallas is what matters most, and we know that support will continue for the immediate and long term future.

Tight end Jason Witten, the designer of the decal, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones voiced their displeasure about the decision, however they also believe the decal has served its purpose in letting the police force know they stand with them.

The Dallas Fallen Officer Foundation said:

The NFL had an opportunity to be leaders and advocates for change in law enforcement. These are our friends and our loved ones ... it hurts to not have the NFL fully support us.

The Cowboys' first bout is with the Los Angeles Rams in a preseason game this Saturday.
