A Hewitt man faces serious charges after allegedly having a sexual reltionship with an underage girl.

KWTX's Rissa Shaw reports that Luke Tyrel Byrd, 26 was in the McLennan County Jail Wednesday charged with sexual assault of a child, criminal mischief, retaliation, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Byrd's bond totals out at $28,000.

The charges were filed after a 15-year-old girl from Hewitt told her mother that she and Byrd had been having sex for almost a year.

"The victim told her mother she'd been having sex with her mother's boyfriend since March of 2018, and most recently on Feb. 10," an arrest affidavit reads. "The victim underwent a forensic interview following the outcry to her mother, who reported the rape to police."

Byrd was brought into custody on February 10th after police say he threatened the 15-year-old girl's mother with a handgun. The sexual assault charge was added to his charges on Tuesday while Byrd was in custody for the charges associated with the reported threat.
