Bryan Police Officer on Leave After Shooting Suspect

A Bryan police officer has been placed on administrative leave after reportedly shooting a suspect who threatened him.

In a media release, the Bryan Police Department said officers responded to a disturbance call from the 5300 block of Mallard Drive at 10:19 PM Sunday. Police initially began speaking to a woman at the scene, at which time a 33-year-old man approached and refused to follow police commands.

"He made statements and movements that led the officer to believe he had a gun", the Bryan PD statement reads. "His movements were consistent with a person pointing a handgun at the officer."

The officer now on leave shot the suspect, who was treated at the scene by officers until medics arrived. The suspect was taken to CHI St. Joseph Medical Center in critical condition.

No other injuries were reported.

The officer was placed on administrative leave as part of the Bryan Police Department's standard procedure policies. There will be both a criminal and internal investigation of the incident, as well as a parallel investigation by the Department of Public Safety and the Texas Rangers.
